The $25,000 donation by DeNova Detect (New Cosmos USA Inc.) to West Reading provided one natural gas alarm per residence in the area of South Second Ave.
“Installing Natural Gas Alarms are a vital step to prevent natural gas tragedies and loss of life as they alert residents of potential emergencies” said a statement from DeNova Detect.
The company says it is recommended that each residence have a natural gas alarm installed at a “point of entry,” which is most often the basement and mounted 12 inches from the ceiling.
“It is of the utmost importance that we offer our community members additional resources and support during this time. The DeNova Detect team of natural gas safety experts are helping our community in this first step towards natural gas safety and have provided us with a solution to help prevent future natural gas explosions from occurring. We’re grateful for their alarm donations and the protection this technology will provide our community,” said Mayor Samantha Kaag.
Remaining alarms not distributed Friday will be available to the general community on Saturday, June 10, at West Reading Borough Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Alarms are available while supplies last. Borough Hall is located at 500 Chestnut Street. Residents must present a valid driver’s license or state ID upon pick up.
New Cosmos USA is headquartered in Chicago and has developed the DeNova Detect brand to provide gas alarms to some of the largest utility companies in the U.S. as well as commercial and residential customers.
Each natural gas alarm comes with installation instructions and information to purchase additional alarms at a reduced cost.
